Around Greek mythology, Iolaus was a boy of Iphicles and thus the nephew of Heracles. He typically acted when Heracles' charioteer & companion, & is occasionally said to keep around besides been Heracles' eromenos (lover). Whenever Heracles was with condition slaying a Hydra because of a regeneration of its many heads, Iolaus cauterized every neck when Heracles beheaded it, & enabled the Hydra to exist as flushed. Heracles married his ex-ex Megara to Iolaus when a sight of her driven him to remember his fitful slaying of their trine tikes.

When Deianeira killed Heracles, believing he was having an affair using Iole, Iolaus lit Heracles' funeral pyre. Note: another time, this was Philoctetes instead.

Ovid IX, 394.
